In traditional religion, Goddess Jagadhatri is another manifestation of Goddess Durga. Quadrilateral goddess Jagadhatri, holding a conch, wheel, bow, and arrow, seated on a lion. Goddess Jagadhatri subdued Karindrasur i.e. the elephant demon. So under the lion is the form of the elephant. According to the scriptures, Goddess Jagadhatri is worshiped on the ninth tithi of Shukla paksha in the month of Kartika. It is said that Goddess Jagadhatri appeared to crush the idols of Agni, Pawan, Varuna, and Chandra.

There is much debate as to where Jagadhatri Puja first started. Many believe that Chandannagar, Bhadreshwar first, and Krishnanagar first according to many, this Jagadhatri Puja started. However, there are some stories about the beginning of this puja in Krishnanagar.
It is said that once the king of Krishnanagar in Nadia “Krishna Chandra” was imprisoned by the order of Meerkashim. He was then released. While returning to Krishnanagar by boat, he saw the Durga Puja idol being abandoned. That day was Vijaya Dashami. He felt sad. Due to his imprisonment, Durga Puja was not performed that year. On that night, the king had a dream of Goddess Jagaddhatri. Since then, this Jagadhatri Puja started at the Rajbari in Krishnanagar.
According to many, King Krishnachandra was worried about the responsibility of worshiping the goddess Jagadhatri (Burima) of Chaja Para. Then the goddess gave him a dream. Another source says that the story of this dream country is not correct. Raja Krishnachandra wanted to spread the puja of his house to others. So this puja is celebrated all over Krishnanagar.
