RG Kar Case; First on Supreme Court’s Agenda This Wednesday

Tuesday (November 05, 2024), RG Kar’s case is not being heard in the Supreme Court. The RG kar case was scheduled to be heard on Tuesday afternoon in a bench of Justice Chandrachur, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra. However, that hearing was postponed due to some special reasons.

The hearing is not being held as Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is going to Rashtrapati Bhavan today. The case will be heard today, Wednesday (6 November 2024). It has been decided that the hearing will start today at 10:30 a.m.

On October 15, the Supreme Court ordered the hearing be held on November 5 at 3:00 p.m. All the lawyers were waiting like that today. Yesterday morning, the Chief Justice’s bench also held a hearing on madrasas, personal property, salaries, and pensions of judges in Uttar Pradesh. It was about 3.30. Solicitor General “Tushar Mehta said”, still number 21 i.e. RG kar hearing is pending. He (Solicitor General) said, today the court may be closed early, in which case another date should be given.

After that Chief Justice “Chandrachur” said the court could rise earlier on Tuesday. It will take time to hear the case. But today he (Chief Justice “Chandrachud”) has to go to Rashtrapati Bhavan. So he will hear the case tomorrow. It is said that when the court sits at 10.30 am, the first RG kar case will be heard. In other words, the Central Intelligence Agency (CBI) will submit a status report on the investigation there tomorrow. The state government will also submit the affidavit.

RG Kar Case:

On August 9, the naked body of a female doctor-student was recovered from RG Kar Medical College. Allegations surfaced that she (the deceased female doctor-student) was raped and murdered. For the past three months, the entire country and state politics have been in turmoil over this incident. People from different walks of life have taken to the streets to demand justice for the victims. Since then, the CBI has been investigating the incident under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

The court sat at 10.30 am. The status report of CBI’s investigation will be known by tomorrow first. The state will also state its position. The state government will give the information regarding the process of recruitment of civic volunteers to the court. Sanjay Roy, accused in the RG kar case, is a civic volunteer. In that context, in the last hearing, the state government was questioned by the Supreme Court about handling security duties with civic volunteers in places like hospitals or educational institutions.

The Chief Justice’s bench sought answers to six questions related to the appointment of civic volunteers, their salaries, etc. The state was expected to submit its answers to those questions in an affidavit on Tuesday. The state government should also inform about the progress of the work related to the infrastructure of the hospital. Besides, the CBI will have to give all the reports about the role of others in the RG Kar case, and what has come into its hands on the allegations of financial corruption.

Apart from this, the state government was also supposed to inform the court on Tuesday about the steps taken by the state regarding security in hospitals and medical colleges. In the last hearing, the state government told the court that all the work would be completed by the end of October. The Chief Justice is also supposed to see the ‘status report’ of the state in that regard.

All these issues will come up in the hearing on Wednesday. Note that “Chandrachud” will retire from the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on November 10. As the next 9th and 10th are Saturday and Sunday respectively, his bench will sit for the last time on Friday. Looking at it that way, the Chief Justice is going to hear the RG Kar case for the last time on Wednesday.

Tragic Fireworks Incident in Kerala: 150+ Injured, 8 Critical in Kasaragod

More than 150 people were injured and 8 critically injured in a fireworks accident during the “Theyyam” festival in Nileswaram, Kerala. The incident happened around midnight. The injured individuals have been moved to the hospital. Eyewitnesses said a firework display was going on at the temple in Kerala when a firecracker fell into a nearby shed, where more firecrackers were stored.

Kerala Fire Tragedy:

Over 154 people were injured, 10 of them critically, when a firecracker mishap broke out at the Anjuthambalam Veererkavu temple in Nileswaram in Kerala’s Kasaragod district late on Monday night. The Kerala Police have arrested two persons due to this massive accident due to the negligence of the temple officials. Shocking scenes from the scene showed the firecrackers creating a huge fire and cloud of smoke moments after the fire started, sending people gathered in the temple premises and running around in fear.

The incident took place at Anjuthambalam Veererkavu during the celebration of the beginning of the festival season ( theyyam ) in the North Malabar region. Eyewitnesses said a firework display was being held at midnight when the firework caught fire in an adjacent shed where more firecrackers were stored. As a result, the fire spread faster. Visuals showed the shed erupting in huge flames and smoke, leaving everyone who had gathered for the festival shocked and several fans injured.

Eyewitnesses said that everyone was present at the festival with their families and loved ones. Suddenly I heard a loud explosion and saw a huge fire rising in my throat. Seeing this scene panic spread all around and there was noise all around.

Several residents reported that all the vegetables were kept in a shed near where crackers were being burst. The local panchayat representative blamed a lack of vigilance. The distance between the shed and the location where the crackers exploded should have been more carefully considered by the temple administration. This distance should be at least 100 meters (between where the crackers are being burst and where the crackers are intended to be placed), but here the distance is only a few feet.

Currently, the Kerala Police has taken the President and Secretary of the temple committee into custody. The temple authorities said that they had constructed a temporary shed with a tin wall where less intense firecrackers worth around Rs 28,000 were stored.

A girl injured in the blast said a spark from the crackers caught all the other firecrackers and exploded within seconds. Forensic teams have collected samples from the site to aid investigations, and local authorities have pledged to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

Local CPI(M) MLA Shri M Rajagopal termed the incident very unfortunate and held a meeting with the District Collector in this regard. According to him, the event happened at midnight while fireworks were being set off to commemorate the celebration. The firecrackers were less intense, and just before the explosion, a fire spark fell on the stored firecrackers.

The district collector said that 80 percent of those who were seriously injured were burnt. He (the District Collector) said the real cause of the accident would be found out. Samples were collected from the scene. A case has been filed.

Initially, the District Collector said that this accident happened due to a lack of security. The place where firecrackers are stored should be at least 100 meters away from where crackers are being burst. He (District Collector) also informed that no permission was taken for the storage of firecrackers.

He said (The district collector) said that 80 percent of those who were seriously injured were burnt. He (the District Collector) said the real cause of the accident would be found out. Samples were collected from the scene. A case has been filed.

Jammu’s Security Forces Strike: Terrorist Gunned Down, Two Militants Killed in Action

Following an attack on an army vehicle in the Akhnoor area, security forces conducted a large search and killed the terrorists. An army dog named Phantom was also killed during this operation.

Cyclone Dana Sparks Panic: Flights and Trains Canceled Across Odisha and Kolkata, Creating Chaos in Affected Districts

Before Kali puja, there is a danger of disaster in Kolkata due to the impact of Cyclone ‘Dana’. All over Kolkata is being monitored through CC cameras. The leave of municipal workers is canceled. More than 250 drainage machines have been kept ready by the Kolkata Municipality to prevent water accumulation on the roads. The water level of Ganga is likely to rise to 14 feet tomorrow morning.

Heavy rains are likely due to cyclone Dana

The effects of Cyclone “Dana” have been seen in Kolkata since this morning. Rains have started in coastal districts of West Bengal including Kolkata. The Meteorological Department has said that the amount of rain may increase from midnight today. Very heavy rain is likely in East Midnipur, West Midnipur, South Twenty-four Parganas and Jhargram districts. Wind speed will also be high in these districts around 100 km per hour. Heavy to very heavy rain warnings have been issued in Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Bankura along Kolkata. It is being informed that the disaster will be more from Thursday afternoon till Friday morning.

A good change of weather has been observed in the coastal districts since Tuesday. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in some places from Wednesday to Friday. And with it, there will be a gusty wind. Heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in East and West Midnapur and South 24 Parganas by Friday. Chances of light to moderate rain have been reported in the remaining districts of South Bengal and in North Bengal as well.

Air traffic at Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports has been suspended due to Cyclone Dana

It was announced on Wednesday that the Kolkata airport will be closed due to cyclone ‘Dana’. It has been announced that no flight will operate at Kolkata airport from 6 pm today Thursday to 9 am tomorrow Friday. Not only the Kolkata airport but also the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar has been closed for 16 hours from Thursday evening.

According to the airport authorities, keeping in mind the disaster, services will be stopped at Bhubaneswar airport from 6 pm on Thursday to 9 am on Friday. So that the passengers do not face any problems, the airport authorities have already announced the cancellation of the flight. An average of 400 flights depart from Kolkata Netaji International Airport every day. About 100 flights depart from Bhubaneswar every day. A large number of flights are canceled due to cyclone ‘Dana’, which naturally harasses the passengers. However, the airport authorities announced the cancellation of the flight a day in advance, considering the issue of passenger harassment.

Due to the impact of Cyclone Dana', Howrah and Sealdah railway authorities have canceled train services.

Not only the plane, but the railway has informed us that about 550 local and express trains are being canceled due to the cyclone. Cyclone Dana is also affecting rail services in West Bengal and Odisha. More than 552 express and passenger trains have already been canceled. Out of this South Eastern Railway has canceled 150 trains. East Coast Rail has canceled 198 and Eastern Rail over 200. About 14 of the South-East-Central Railways have also been canceled.

The trains canceled by Eastcoast Rail include Howrah-Secunderabad, Shalimar-Puri, New Delhi-Bhubaneswar, Kamakhya-Bengaluru, Kharagpur-Villupuram, Shalimar-Hyderabad, Howrah-Bhubaneswar, Howrah-Puri and many more. The express trains canceled by Eastern Rail include Patna-Ernakulam Express, Kolkata-Puri, Puri-Kolkata, Bengaluru-Guwahati, Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari and many more.

Many local trains have also been canceled from the busiest Howrah and Sealdah railway stations. A total of 190 trains have been canceled on the Sealdah South and Hasanabad branches. From Thursday night to Friday morning, the train movement of Sealdah South and Hasnabad branches will be stopped for 14 hours, it has been informed by the railway authorities. Cyclone ‘Dana’ has moved further towards the West Bengal and Odisha coasts in a terrifying form on Thursday. It is expected to hit Odisha between Thursday midnight and Friday morning. At that time the speed of the storm will be 110-110 km per hour and the maximum speed may reach around 120 km per hour.

All the districts of Gangetic West Bengal are likely to receive light to moderate rains today and tomorrow. Warning for heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in two 24 Parganas, two Medinipur, Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly. This storm can blow at a maximum speed of 120 km/ph in East Medinipur from this evening. In East Medinipur, sea waves can reach a height of about 14 feet. According to the Meteorological Department, the situation may return to normal after tomorrow afternoon.

Kashmir terrorist attack: First footage of militants with M4 and AK-47

A doctor and six laborers were killed in the terrorist attack that took place near the Gagangir area of Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, October 20. They were working for the infrastructure company APCO Infratech. All of them were constructing the Z-Morah Tunnel, which connects Gaganir with Sonamarg in Ganderbal district.

Pictures of two terrorists involved in this horrific attack in Jammu and Kashmir have emerged so far. CCTV footage shows the terrorists carrying a US-made M4 carbine assault rifle and an AK-47. The terrorists spent about seven minutes in the workers’ camp before fleeing the scene. According to sources, they were very familiar with the area.

After the attack, senior police officers and officials from the National Investigation Agency and other security agencies visited the site. CCTV footage shows the terrorists armed with firearms (A-47 and M4 carbine rifles) entering the labor camp, where the workers were sheltered. The attack took place last Sunday night after the tunnel workers returned to the camp. There were no CCTV cameras installed when they first opened fire.

The investigation also revealed that they first threw a grenade at the camp and then started firing. According to a security guard among the injured who managed to escape, the workers initially thought that some people were bursting crackers outside. But within two to three minutes they realized it was a terrorist attack.

Two terrorists were caught on CCTV

The pictures of the two terrorists are still visible. They had bushy beards, were tall and thin in appearance, and wore black and gray wraparound shawls. A day after the attack, according to sources, the Pakistan-based branch of Lashkar-e-Taiba, The Resistance Front (TRF), claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to them, Srinagar-based TRF chief “Sheikh Sajjad Gul” was the mastermind behind the attack. It is this outfit that has been firing on local Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris. One of the attackers was carrying an M4 carbine assault rifle and another an AK-47. So far, 37-40 spent cartridges have been recovered from the spot.

According to sources, the TRF group had been running a plan on the Sonamarg site for the past month. Since last Sunday, authorities have taken into custody for questioning more than 40 suspects who helped them conduct an operation before the attack. Currently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has cordoned off the area for crucial evidence. Indian Army, CRPF, and police personnel launched a massive comb-over in Sonamarg on Monday.

As of right now, three victims have been identified. Among them are doctors Shahnawaz, Shashi Bhushan Abrol, and Gurmeet Singh. The attack was the deadliest attack on migrant workers in the Kashmir Valley.

Earlier on October 18, terrorists killed Ashok Chauhan, a migrant laborer from Bihar, in Shopian district. Locals in that area saw Chauhan’s bullet-ridden body and informed the police. Last April, migrant laborer Raju Shah was killed in a terrorist attack in Anantnag district. For nearly two years, TRF groups have targeted Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs and non-locals.
