Tuesday (November 05, 2024), RG Kar’s case is not being heard in the Supreme Court. The RG kar case was scheduled to be heard on Tuesday afternoon in a bench of Justice Chandrachur, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra. However, that hearing was postponed due to some special reasons.
The hearing is not being held as Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is going to Rashtrapati Bhavan today. The case will be heard today, Wednesday (6 November 2024). It has been decided that the hearing will start today at 10:30 a.m.
On October 15, the Supreme Court ordered the hearing be held on November 5 at 3:00 p.m. All the lawyers were waiting like that today. Yesterday morning, the Chief Justice’s bench also held a hearing on madrasas, personal property, salaries, and pensions of judges in Uttar Pradesh. It was about 3.30. Solicitor General “Tushar Mehta said”, still number 21 i.e. RG kar hearing is pending. He (Solicitor General) said, today the court may be closed early, in which case another date should be given.
After that Chief Justice “Chandrachur” said the court could rise earlier on Tuesday. It will take time to hear the case. But today he (Chief Justice “Chandrachud”) has to go to Rashtrapati Bhavan. So he will hear the case tomorrow. It is said that when the court sits at 10.30 am, the first RG kar case will be heard. In other words, the Central Intelligence Agency (CBI) will submit a status report on the investigation there tomorrow. The state government will also submit the affidavit.
RG Kar Case:
On August 9, the naked body of a female doctor-student was recovered from RG Kar Medical College. Allegations surfaced that she (the deceased female doctor-student) was raped and murdered. For the past three months, the entire country and state politics have been in turmoil over this incident. People from different walks of life have taken to the streets to demand justice for the victims. Since then, the CBI has been investigating the incident under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
The court sat at 10.30 am. The status report of CBI’s investigation will be known by tomorrow first. The state will also state its position. The state government will give the information regarding the process of recruitment of civic volunteers to the court. Sanjay Roy, accused in the RG kar case, is a civic volunteer. In that context, in the last hearing, the state government was questioned by the Supreme Court about handling security duties with civic volunteers in places like hospitals or educational institutions.
The Chief Justice’s bench sought answers to six questions related to the appointment of civic volunteers, their salaries, etc. The state was expected to submit its answers to those questions in an affidavit on Tuesday. The state government should also inform about the progress of the work related to the infrastructure of the hospital. Besides, the CBI will have to give all the reports about the role of others in the RG Kar case, and what has come into its hands on the allegations of financial corruption.
Apart from this, the state government was also supposed to inform the court on Tuesday about the steps taken by the state regarding security in hospitals and medical colleges. In the last hearing, the state government told the court that all the work would be completed by the end of October. The Chief Justice is also supposed to see the ‘status report’ of the state in that regard.
All these issues will come up in the hearing on Wednesday. Note that “Chandrachud” will retire from the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on November 10. As the next 9th and 10th are Saturday and Sunday respectively, his bench will sit for the last time on Friday. Looking at it that way, the Chief Justice is going to hear the RG Kar case for the last time on Wednesday.
The whole country is looking at the hearing of the RG Kar case. Today, the junior doctors of RG Kar expressed their frustration as the hearing was delayed. Some of them said, “We are disappointed. We thought that this case would be seen as an exemplary case and the case would be solved quickly. We got a CBI investigation, but we who started the movement, are still missing the answers. How many people are involved in this case, Even after so long, we are not getting anything. The agitation went on for the last three months, and the whole country was watching, but still date after date, we are disappointed.” Now we are looking forward to today’s court hearing.
