They said there is a risk of low pressure forming over the Bay of Bengal today, which may develop into a deep depression cyclone by Wednesday. Qatar named this cyclone “Dana“.

The Meteorological Department said there are yellow, red, and orange warnings between October 23 and 25. Seas will be rough today and tomorrow, with strong winds likely. Therefore, fishermen are prohibited from fishing in the sea for these two days. Due to the impact of this storm, a heavy rain warning has been issued in the districts of South Bengal including Kolkata for the next two days and very heavy rain is possible in several districts.

As per the West Bengal Weather report Cyclone "Dana" issued a red warning:

Due to the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, the sky of Bengal is getting dark again next week. The weather is likely to change from Tuesday afternoon. This low pressure is expected to become a Cyclone storm by next Wednesday. Almost all districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, are likely to receive heavy rain on Wednesday-Thursday. A warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in South Bengal till Friday and rain is also forecast in North Bengal.

Gusty winds are blowing in coastal areas. Therefore, fishermen are prohibited from going to the sea from Wednesday. A special alert has also been issued on the Sundarban coast. Sundarbans District Police has launched a mic campaign to alert all fishermen in Fraserganj, Namkhana.

The speed of cyclone "Dana":

According to the Meteorological Department, this cyclone “Dana” is likely to pass between Puri and Sagardwip along the coast of North Odisha and West Bengal during the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25. At this time, the speed of the storm may be around 100-110 km per hour. The maximum speed can go up to 120 km per hour.

What is the impact of the cyclone in Bengal?

Moderate to heavy rains with thundershowers are likely to occur in South Bengal districts on Wednesday under the influence of a cyclone, as per the West Bengal Weather report. There is also a possibility of very heavy rain in some areas of two Medinipur, and two 24 Parganas districts. Therefore, a red alert has been issued in several areas of two Medinipur, South 24 Parganas till next Thursday. Heavy to very heavy rain warnings have been issued in parts of Kolkata including Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, and Jhargram.

Which Districts of West Bengal may be affected by cyclone?

According to the West Bengal Weather report, two 24 Parganas, two Medinipur, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram, and Bankura may be affected.

They warned that there could be major damage to sheds or huts. There is a possibility that the house rice will fly away. Water can accumulate in low-lying areas. Power service may be interrupted. Flooding situations may occur in areas along the Kansavati River, and Damodar River.
