On October 17, 2024, Thursday, the body of a newborn baby went missing from Siliguri District Hospital. As soon as this incident came out, commotion spread in the hospital area. It is learned that ‘Riya Gupta’, a resident of Goalpathi in Siliguri district, was admitted to Siliguri District Hospital in a pregnant state last Wednesday (16 October ’24). After the checkup, the doctor said that the baby died in the womb. That day (Wednesday) night, the woman gave birth to her stillborn child (hospital authorities informed her that a boy was born). The hospital authorities then informed the family of the dead baby that they would be able to collect the baby’s body after 4 hours of delivery. Because of this, the family of the deceased child said that they would take the body of the child from the hospital tomorrow (October 17, Thursday) morning.
According to them, the child’s family members will have to wait for a long time on Thursday (17 October’24) morning to collect the body. From morning to afternoon, the child’s body was not handed over from the hospital to them. They repeatedly informed the hospital authorities to hand over their baby’s body to them. After waiting for a long time and not getting any reply, they (family members) became angry.
In the hospital area, local sources said that family members of the dead child were waiting in front of the hospital since morning. They were deeply saddened by the loss of their newborn child. When they (people in the hospital area) heard that the baby’s body was not being handed over to the family of the deceased, after waiting for so long, there was commotion in the hospital area.
In this incident, the mother of the dead child raised questions about the security system of Siliguri District Hospital. Siliguri District Hospital Superintendent Amit Dutta said that an investigation will be conducted into this unusual incident. The Siliguri police went to the district hospital on Thursday afternoon after receiving information about the incident. The Siliguri police assured the family of the dead child to look into the matter.
